This antique Atterbury glass covered dish features a charming cat or kitten design on a lattice base often referred to as "dancing sailors". First made by Atterbury in 1889 and such pieces are marked accordingly on the underside of the lid in raised molded letters, PAT P. 1889 as the lid of this piece is clearly marked. The later reproductions were not marked except for the WG mark used by Westmoreland Glass on the bottoms. The bottom of this one is not marked, making both the top and bottom authentic originals from Atterbury.
This piece is in good used condition without cracks or significant chips. The piece bears the normal roughness around the edges primarily at the seams. Nice opalescent fire of the glass not seen in the opaque white of modern milk glass.
