PORTIEUX VALLERYSTHAL FRENCH MILK GLASS ARGONAUT SHELL DOLPHIN LIDDED DISH. SUPERB EXAMPLE OF ANTIQUE FRENCH OPALINE WHITE MILK GLASS. Presenting a stunning elaborately decorated "Argonaut Shell" lidded bowl in a highly appealing opaque white milk glass, produced in France by the highly acclaimed Vallerysthal Glassworks.

This impressive footed and lidded bowl was a part of Vallerysthal's animal range which was produced in the late 1800's. Both the body of the bowl and the top of the lid feature garlands composed of various different types of shells in high relief.

This elegant bowl is beautifully raised standing on three feet which are modeled in the shape of dolphins or sturgeons. The lid is crowned with a large conical shaped shell, which also acts as a knob with which to lift the lid. The elaborate design is most impressive and would make a stunning feature in any home. This superb vintage Vallerysthal bowl is presented in excellent antique condition, with chips, cracks, losses or repairs. Even the delicate beadwork to the top rim of the bowl has survived in exceptional condition and is free of losses. The seams have the odd mold rough spot, a normal part of the manufacture process, but mentioned for complete accuracy. This piece has been exceptionally well cared for and presents spectacularly.

This impressive Antique French glass bowl stands approx 163mms tall including the lid, 85mms tall excluding the lid, and measures approx 140mms in diameter at the top rim of the bowl. The remnants of the label remain in place to the inner base, enough to authenticate this is a genuine Vallerysthal piece. This stunning lidded glass bowl would make a fine addition to any Vallerysthal or quality antique French glass collection. A standout feature for any classic, antique or Paris Apartment styled home, and a rare gift for the lover of fine quality vintage items of sheer beauty.
