The piece features a covered lid shaped like a hen. The hen features intricate feather detailing; the face of the hen features clear emerald glass.

The hen's nest compartment is surrounded by a deep border with twelve slots for eggs. The piece is in very good vintage condition, with very minor wear commensurate with age and light use. There are two small separate areas of roughness at the base of the tail (which could be a manufacturing flaw or chipped), these two small flaws are very hard to notice as they blend in with the feathers on the tail.
