Offered is this beautiful antique Atterbury covered dish in opaque white milk glass. The lid features a detailed, majestic reclining lion resting on a "nest" base, with intricate mane and facial features.
The bowl sits on a distinctive pedestal base with an open lace-like border incorporating the charming "Dancing Sailor" motif-small figures around the scalloped edge. This piece measures approximately 8 inches long (width) by 7.5 inches high (as provided; overall dimensions align with similar examples around 8" x 6-7" x 7). It displays a lovely soft glow typical of early milk glass, with good molding detail on the lion and base.
Condition: Excellent antique condition overall with strong original patina and no major damage. There is one very small chip on the underside of the base (pedestal bottom)-it is minor, not visible from the top or sides, and only noticeable when turned over. No cracks, flea bites, repairs, or other chips noted. Age & Maker: Circa late 1800s (patent date August 6, 1889 on mold).
